(apart from the obvious "unplug the router if there is a storm".

)
It's the only answer that works.
The circuitry that interprets adsl signal is very sensitive (has to be). 90% of the time routers get fried via the phone line not the power line (thumb-sucked stat).
Most of the UPS designs have a port for phone lines, but it won't make a difference. Its just a fuse.
By the time the fuse/trip switch kicks in the router has already been dead for ages.
Aside from unplugging your best bet is probably to buy a set of separate units instead of an integrated home router. i.e. separate wireless AP, switch and modem. That way it costs less when the inevitable happens.
Replaced my router about 2 weeks ago. It had name brand protection on both phone line and power line. At least it lasted 2 years.
Where you from?
You the 8th person I know complaining about lightning hitting them.
Probably GP. Lighting storms every bloody day atm.
@SecretCode: I don't think theres is a test. Most household electricians will measure the tripping point of the earth leakage if asked. Which is complete bull**** since the earth leakage unit isn't even connected to earth (It compares live & neutral. If there is a difference then it leaked somewhere). I think its mostly a case of going for an overkill on the grounding & ensuring that its good that way.
Clearline's products work very well, and the Teljoy ones offer warranty for the damaged goods if it still get's hit by lightning.
Has anyone here ever claimed on that? Or even heard of someone who has been successful? I've only heard of cases of people who tried to claim & failed. Fine print and burden of proof BS.
