Good Afternoon,

My wife are going to be renting a house and will now need to pay lights and water as where we currently reside its included in our rental fee. Question is i wanted to know more or less how much should we budget for each month for L&W ? I know its based on usage but lets just take a real wild average? Just the two of us? We both only get home just after 17:00 .

Thanks

That depends solely on your wife. I use within the 100kl range of water (which is free) and around 300kwh in electricity;

Having those things included in your rent is amazing since it's a fixed cost for you and you can use whatever whenever... but anyway

Best person who would know what the consumption would look like on average is your landlord

Ask you landlord to be to give you the average being paid by the current / previous tenants.

That should give you a rough ball-park figure to work with.

R1000 is a fairly safe estimate. It would likely be lower, but it's better to know you have budgeted to much and can easily afford it.

Our bill ranges from R1,600 to R1,800 over the last 10 months and we have a pool, with a lot of electronics that are on a lot. We're not really wasteful but don't go out of our way to save any.

Those numbers include the property tax of R480 which we don't pay.

So budget in the range of R1,200 I'd say, or less if you save mad like my brother his bill is only R700pm

well thats awesome news as i was looking at about R2500.00 per month, so your estimates come in way under that. Thank you very much guys! Really appreciate it!

Geyser on a timer, all energy saving devices and lights all around. My water and electricity combined is R300 in the winter and R200 to R250 in the summer. Me and my fiance living together.
