Ok, so I'm about ready to throw my new DVD writer out the window. Just bought a new LG 18x DVD writer with Lightscribe. DVD writes awesome, but no matter what I do it will not print a label. I'm using Nero 7 and Verbatim disks. Nero says preparing print, and then goes to 100% complete.

Any ideas?

I had the exact same thing. I downloaded this diagnostic utility which fixed a screwed up registry setting for me and all was well again:

http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/windows/downloads/ldu/LsDiagnosticUtility_1.4.136.1.exe

Also, make sure you have the latest version of the lightscribe system software:

http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/windows/index.aspx?id=810

and check if you are running the lastest firmware for your drive. If you also have the GSA-H20L Drive, pm me and I will email you the 650Kb file, which lets you flash it with the latest image.

This is an awesome tho expensive technology, im told.. i just found out about it over the week-end :P

Canon IP3000 is still going strong 1 min to print a photo quality full colour label direct to disk :) no expensive media needed.

I also purchased a 18X LG H42, tried to install Vista after 10 minutes starting to Install got the msg retry can't find file. Used an old DVD Sony Reader only and no Problems. Searched the local LG website , drive model no Data found. For the 18x Super Multi DVD Recorder GSA-H42L from Makro. CD inside the package not compatible with Vista, ita the latest model from LG. Went to LG Germany, found the Drive plus the FW upgrade did it, but no luck using it.
A test report indicated that burnt DVD's play not on 25% of players. So purchased a new Mecer no Lightscribe but Nero 7 Lite and Power DVD all Vista ready workd like a dream. and R200 cheaper. Contacted LG and I'm still waiting because they replied stating a service consultant will contact you.
I'm still waiting, but I'll return it to Makro for a crdit R 499,00

Yip, it's the H42L. I also could not find it on any of the LG Websites. I'm not having any problems playing the disks after, just the Lightscribe thing is irritating. Downloading the Diagnostic tool now and will check it out.

Thanks for the responses guys

Depends on the version of Nero 7...
The Lightscribe writers usually come bundled with an OEM version of Nero 5 or 6 which includes Lightscribe.
If it is Nero 7 premium, there shouldn't be problems, but if it is a version that came with your previous writer, you're 99% outta luck - Nero bundled with drives usually only work with that specific drive model due to bundled firmware.
Also most versions of Nero downloaded from the net don't do the job - some functions disabled/overlooked by the cracking teams...
I'm using Nero Premium 7.5.9.1 - no problems so far with LiteOn writer - burns Lightscribe disks with labels - had to uninstall previous version of Nero though...
Passed my old LG drive on to my younger son due to the "Zero Support" policy they have at LG  and Game  stores.

Diagnostics say everything is fine, but still no label. Will try uninstalling and reinstalling Nero.

lg has firmware for the new LG H42 on their website Ver.S01 it says its for the H42N but can be used for the H42L as well

Using the updated firmware already. Found something new, if I turn the pc off and on again, it'll write, but only 1 cover, then off and on again... maybe the software isn't releasing the drive or something? I'm fiddling around a bit more to see what else I can come up with.

On another note, when trying to update the Nero software using the online update utility, it always says Internet Connection Unavailable. I connect through a router...
