Hi there

I got a lightscribe drive and what do i need , found some software to do lightscirbe .

Are ther special cd/dvd's for lightscribe or can i use it on normal cd/dvd's .

IMO lightscribe is not really worth the effort or the cost. A marker pen (koki) works just as well and you get the same results. ;) Lightscribe is just a gimmick... but see here if you insist...

I got the software , thanks .

What will happen if i use normal disk to lightscribe it , will my drive be affected , whats gonna happen , will the cd melt , any ideas .

Experiment and post the results.

/accepts no responsibility if unit is damaged in the process!

It wont accept a normal disc.It asks to insert a lightscribe disk and does not damage the disk or the cd/dvd

Lightscribe is flippin amazing i think.

I love it use it all the time, the lightscribe dvd/cd's are not all that expensive cost slightly more and they look amazing :). Nothing will happen it will be the same as if you want to burn a dvd and put a cd in it does not melt the drive, simply pops it out and asks for the correct media.

dude, i have had lightscribe since it first came out, hell i hardly use the dame thing, i even still have some disks i have never used. it will work like a normal dvd writer for normal disks, and when trying to copy lightscribe, it will ask for a lightscribe disk if not inserted. i find it easier just to use a marker, far less fuss!

On closer inspection I have noted that all my writers are also lightscribe capable!

I also got a lightscribe DVD writer and never used the lightscribe function before, I also use a marker pen or a inkjet printer that can print directly on printable DVD/CD's

i buy lightscribe drives because i think to myself surely one day i will use it. i am still waiting.

+1 to snail & Hein - I've had one since they came out and the guy selling it to me said I would never use it really... I LOL'ed at him and said "yeah, whatever."

I have yet to burn a lightscribe and I don't Intend on doing it either. to be frank here I won't even backup to DVD's anymore.

DVD's cost R3 for 4GB (Roughly)
that's R750 for 1TB of DVD's.

now....a 1TB Hard Drive costs just over a R1000.

With DVD's you got:
headaches from burning all the DVD's
No instant access.
You're stuck with what you burned
Can't delete old stuff, for better, new stuff
A crapload of discs lying around
discs get lost, scratched, etc...
And you are going to have to replace DVD Drives every few hundred discs.

nah - i'd rather put it on HDD.

hope that helps some of the n00bs out there still writing their asses off.

I use lightscribe now and again, but it takes like almost +10 minutes to print. Thats damn slow for me. So I use a marker most of the time!

Got lightscribe drives. Still prefer a regular fine tip permanent marker, much faster & less hassle.

I use the lightscribe feature on my drives every once in a while, i think its pretty awesome! For a 10 pack hp dvd+r spindle it costed me R30, not too bad imo
