whats a good firewall to use thats not a cpu horse ?

Sygate Personal Firewall ...... never uses more than 15mb of memory and nothing has as yet gotten through ;)

My ADSL router does a good enough job for me . . . and zero overhead for the computers sitting behind it.

unfortunately routers can't do exact per application access management.

Sygate Personal Firewall has been replaced by an advanced "Smart Firewall," available in Symantec’s Norton Internet Security. This firewall is based on Sygate Personal Firewall’s same IPD/IDS technology and provides you with robust online security. This firewall, included in the Norton Internet Security product, provides a simple, unified way to stay protected from online threats. Norton Internet Security also includes essential protection from viruses, spyware, hackers, phishing, and more.

+1 for Comodo - I used to use the bloatware Norton and Symantec, then changed to Comodo a year or so back and no problems to date... :D

I just saw a special for Outpost (Firewall and Antivirus) who are giving away a lifetime license for the price of a 1 year license (3 PC's)

I personally don't use Outpost but will give it a go for that price. Presently I use AVG (Purchased version) as my Antivirus and Sunbelt Personal Firewall which is really nice and lightweight but gives a high level of control if you want (free for home use: http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-Home-Office/Sunbelt-Personal-Firewall/).

...for interest sake, i remember using a firewall where i could reroute applications to different routes- i see that comodo can do it any one know perhaps of a firewall that can do this, be allot better to "sense" the ip of the realm and then adding it to windows route table though...
