Can people tell me if Limewire is shaped on TelkomInternet? Will i get better speeds if I download via IS?

Experiences will be appreciated.

Shaped Lemon Draad

Are you on a shaped or unshaped account?

I have shaped TI account - I believe IS do not shape their ADSL accounts hence I would like to know if it is better to use Limewire with an IS account.

IS P2P on satellite?

Correct me if im wrong but I heard that IS do there peer to peer via satellite, not really great latency but no shaping – so fine for downloads? What speed are you getting?

I get about 12 - 20KB on TI depending on the peer's connection - if they have T1 or higher my d/load is better. I will test quick with IS. I was just lazy to switch accounts this morning and thought maybe someone had some experience with this. :o

Back to the original question!

Yes if you have a shaped Telkom account then your Down Load speed are not that good, I have used both shaped and unshaped on the Telkom SAIX network – and P2P is much MUCH better on the unshaped, As I posted previously im not to sure about the IS accounts – any IS boykies care to comment?

My Unshaped

When i use my unshaped account on limewire i also get about 10 to 20 k and thats off a 384!

Hmmm.. I am getting better speeds off TI - IS is giving me 2 - 9KB on the same d/loads. But it could be due to a lot of factors. I had 30KB on IS d/loading from a T3 connection last weekend so I was wondering which is best as my IS account is nearing its cap.

run your modem in Bridged mode and you won't be shaped!

Eh? And how would this solve shaping? :) *I suspect either you made a joke or you meant something else*

Full speed on an IS account, no shaping. Latency isn't an issue when you downloading. Slow speeds on an IS account usually happen only during business hours. After 5pm and on weekends it flies.

in Bridge mode there is no need to map/forward ports etc.

therefore those ports aren't blocked/shaped.

Obviously you have no idea what shaping/unshaping means then. Shaping isnt done on the client side and setting it up in bridged mode would just remove the need of port-forwarding.

The shaping portion happens on telkoms side, depending on your adsl account that you subscribed for.

port shaping and port blocking is completely unrelated aswell.

By no means would bridged mode remove shaping on your account.
