I'm having problems with all P2P progs, especially limewire, ever since I got dsl.
I cannot get a good connection and 98% of the time I try to download something it says it cant find sources or something. The problem may be caused by the fact that it doesnt detect any firewall when I have a adsl router (from telkom) and Sygate firewall both on my pc. I am very new to dsl so I dont understand port forwarding & the likes.
Please help!!
Thanx,

thanx 4 the reply, please could you explain how to do that on my marconi 4-port ethernet router? There isn't anything about it in the manual.
thanx,

you'll have to go to the router setup. default telkom router ip is 10.0.0.2 ... try looking around there for uPnP.

good luck :p

hmm, I cant find it. Any idea where it would be? I think I might have found the port forwarding place, altho I dont know how to use it. It asks for "Public Port-Start", "Public Port-End", "Private Port", "Port Type", & "Host IP Adress".
Please help me with this or upnp
Thank you,

I tried eDonkey but the files downloaded extremely slowly, I also tried shareaza and it had the same result. I got rid of eDonkey because it had lots of spyware.

hmmm sounds like port shaping to me, used to have the same problem. contact clipse or mr. beep for an unshaped proxy account. i'm getting full line speed on bearshare and limewire now.

I got a proxy with mr Beep but I couldnt connect to limewire with it

Ask MrBeeps to help you with the setup. I also have an account with him and Limewire are running at full speeds.
Also, on his forum there's a thread for the setup of Limewire.

A bit off topic but found this article about limeWire on the web:

ONE OF the main P2P clients for Gnutella, LimeWire is to work out a way to block people sharing pirated content.

According to Slyck news around three to five days ago, LimeWire developers began working on two new branches of the code, cc_reverify_interval-branch and cc-publish-branch.

The first branch will verify that every file shared has a license. If this is not the case, the file will not be shared. The second branch is for publishing one's own work without a licence.

If an individual shares an unlicensed MP3 file, the LimeWire client will display a message and block its distribution.

The move comes after the music industry wrote to LimeWire demanding that it stop encouraging people to use P2P to pirate software. The company has previously indicated that it could not stop the music industry after the recent Supreme Court ruling against the file sharing companies.

I read the thread, I will ask Mr. Beep for help as soon as I get time.

Limewire is open source and some folks have forked it already to a new clean client called "Frostwire".
