I know this has been asked before. How do you manage an ADSL account between several people logging in?

If your cap is, say 3Gig, and someone is using a lot more than they should. Is there a way to allocate 1Gig to an individual?

Would the best way be to use software or is there an easier hardware option?

I've been testing NetLimiter. It counts usage quite well, buit it doesn't 'limit' anything, unless I've configured it incorrectly. (trial version)

What are you using. I'm sure this is an old problem now.

netlimiter limits bandwidth throughput, not data quota

are these people logging in from different pcs on the same/different network?

if on the same network, best solution would be to bridge your router and have each one log in with his/her own isp account.

the other alternative is to punch the face in of whoever is raping your cap.

LoL :D Sounds like a plan :p

There is one account with Telkom, 3 Gig, a wireless modem router (Mega105), and 3 PC's connecting, 2 wirelessly. The data eater denies all knowledge, so proof would be good :p
Anyhow, the solution would be the same, squashed face or not!

So do we have to spend money on opening a new account?? Isn't there a way to see where the data went by Mac or separate login to the router. Hardware would be the best option. How about an access point like they have in an internet cafe?

bridge the modem, create pppoe from one machine as run it as a gateway for the other two. if you absolutely must have proof then you can set up a 3rd party proxy application on the gateway machine which will then log traffic flow to the other two client pcs

i know it sounds like a hassle but i get the impression that you're not too keen on corporal punishment :D

I thought a bridge was to connect a router to another?

No, we could 'punish', but human nature being as it is, we expect people to take things that are not nailed down in our society.

when you bridge a router it simply means you have to create the connection to you isp account from your pc as opposed to the modem dialling the connection automatically. this also allows for several pcs to connect to their own isp accounts simultaneously.

downside of it is that your router's firewall capabilties might then not function as it would if it was not bridged

theres also half bridged mode but im too lazy to type any further
