Sy praat mooi Afrikaans.
:)
They taught here well in the Cape.
She gets bonus points in my book for being able to speak Afrikaans and do it well.

Well done.

Could not care less, although it might impress some. As long as she has the right policies in mind she (the DA) will have my vote.

Its not so much news as an interesting tidbit. It's cool, i like her.

How good is she with zulu or xhosa?

Um, looks like she can read Afrikaans. Trollips Afrikaans is probably a lot better (not that I'd choose him over her).

So if one speaks Afrikaans then it means they are able to lead? I don't the point of this thread. It's "Lindiwe", not "Lindiwi". Does she speak any Xhosa/Zulu or Tswana/Sotho? This mentality of being impressed with black people that speak Afrikaans well is so old fashioned. I can go further and say that being impressed with a black person that speaks English fluently and with a "polished" accent is so old school. Lindiwe will find it extremely difficult to attract black people if she keeps on speaking Afrikaans and making it as if she is trying to impress whites. She will attract black votes though if she delivers services to blacks and have that overshadow her perceived "alliance" with white. Unfortunately, even though we don't want to admit it, we are racially divided and that's why I've said those things.

I agree but I would hope she doesn't get written off because she delivered one Afrikaans speech.

No need to feel so hard done by Sly. I am sure she didn't speak Afrikaans to make you feel less "black".

With time, I am sure, that your jealousy of an educated black female will pass, and you too, will shed the shackles of mediocrity.

Actually, most uneducated blacks speak much better Afrikaans than English (especially, the older ones)

True. To attract black voters you must project an image of total gormlessness. She must recognise the importance of “De ebil snail is coming to get me!” (Faints with terror).

This is very true especially in the Limpopo province.

When we went there in February for a marriage, I stopped at a Engen garage and asked the attendant for directions. He could not understand a word I said in English, so I had to speak Afrikaans. It was weird.

In my experience 40+ black people in th Eastern Cape will often try talk to me in Afrikaans first then switch to English if they have to. I'm guessing it's a throw back to the old Bantu education system.
