Can anyone suggest free software i can use to record both line in and out?

I am trying to call a call centre, and you would not believe the **** they come up with.

I will obviously inform them beforehand that they are being recorded.

I am using VoIP, so it needs to be software i can install on my Windows PC

You don't have to do that - only one party to a conversation needs to consent to the recording and as a party, you can consent to recording it yourself. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Audacity should suit your needs

And also, if you tell them that you're also recording the call, they might just refuse to speak to you.

Mmm - alternatively, they may finally start making sense and not speaking the usual BS that they like to spew so I can understand OP's reason if he wants to tell them.

Personally, I agree with you here.

I damn well hope you're right - if the bolded part happens, it'll surely be a first for an SA call centre.

funny thing is i tried the recording earlier, i told them i am recording, and they still treated me like an @ss and came up with stories

Hahaha. So they don't care.

Did the recording work? If so, what's your next step? Escalation to management, or worse?

only my mic recorded :) with the other software.

I subsequently installed "Audacity" and gave them a call. The service is damn near ridiculous.... After about 25 min i was simply put back to reception. Funny thing though, i told her the name of the CEO and told her i knew he was not in, so i wanted to speak to someone with similar authority, she then said "Hold On" and i was put through to the executive of Customer service who will phone me back in 30 min's once he is finished with his meeting.

I was required to confirm lots of personal information, so i am going to bleep it out and post the conversation online if anyone was interested in listening to a half an hour of utter garbage.
