My school's ISP is currently MWEB and we have a 3GB cap (R299). And we have a Telkom 512KB line (R326). Of course plus the line rental (R165).

Recently I've heard from MWEB that you can migrate your line bandwidth that you got from Telkom to MWEB, so that MWEB now is the sole facilitator of Internet access. With it also comes a substantial decrease because you now only pay one package (R549 instead of R299+R326).

Has anyone done this so far? Has the migration gone smoothly? Can you recommend this move?

I think that SAINET is currently the cheapest ADSL line facilitator.
Next is Axxess and WebAfrica.
Then MWeb.

But, I think MWeb has the extra educational offerings on their service included as part of the deal ... though, I am not sure.

But, it would seem to be a relatively safe moving your ADSL line to another provider.

If your incentive is purely money, then take a good look at the other ISP's and their offerings as well.

Our email address is currently at MWEB and is widely used. We can't change that.

Get the cheapest package with mweb. Then move to a cheaper ADSL provider. Do not know if they still have that ~R40pm email-only account option though.

Of course you can. Sure it will take a little effort but mweb is hoping their users will be too lazy.

Three simple steps - 1) set up an auto responder with the new email address, 2) add a signature to every outgoing email with the new details and 3) change the reply to on your mweb account to the new one. You could already be doing this.

You could also retain your mweb email address I think without using their adsl offerings. Next you setup gmail to fetch mail from the mweb pop so everything appearse in your gmail account. All replied/sent messages will also originate from the gmail account.

Just follow the steps described in above posts.
