Hi.

Can someone please tell me if my line stats are good.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6019 kbps 639 kbps
Line Attenuation 39.0 db 24.5 db
Noise Margin 4.9 db 12.1 db

Getting disconnected alot recently.. All modem lights are green but cant browse nor download. Ran a ping and its times out more than 50% of the time. Have to reboot the router to connect properly.. Also router was changed a week ago. Running a new netgear n300 modem.

Recreated ports but no luck..

Sounds weird, your attenuation is still great, my aunt is on 8mb with 47, do not ask me how! :P Although ur noise margin is very very low, try another modem, replace splitters etc etc.... One thing that is that your line might actually be damaged, so I would report a fault... Is there any noise on the tele line?

Im currently using a wireless phone.. i will get a normal phone to test tomorrow and report back with any noise. but yeah this is weird. if all fails i will log a fault with telkom

You have the same Attenuation as me and there is nothing wrong with your Attenuation, but your Noise Margin(SNR) is not good at all, you need at least 10db Noise Margin for a stable line.

Noise Margin (SNR):
SNR means Signal to Noise Ratio. Simply put divide the Signal value by Noise Value and you get SNR. You need high SNR for a stable connection. In general, a higher signal to noise ratio will result in less errors.

* 6bB. or below = Bad and will experience no line synchronisation and frequent disconnections
* 7dB-10dB. = Fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions.
* 11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no disconnection problems
* 20dB-28dB. = Excellent
* 29dB. or above = Outstanding

You will need to call Telkom and get someone out to test your line and when they figure out where the problem is, they will try and repair the line, hopefully it is just your home socket connectors that is faulty or the port at the exchange otherwise it will take time to repair.

Good luck. :)
