Somewhere in the world
Just moved over to AH and ran a line test. I know my line has always been bad, hence me only sync'ing at 3Mbps.

The stats look good at the Dslam, but bad at the remote location. I presume then the problem is then the copper between the Dslam and my house? Nothing really I can do about it I guess :(

Not sure why the CurrentSyncRate at the router says 512?

Yeah, how did you see the stats on the DSLAM?

There seems plenty of noise margin to increase the speed. Give telkom a ring and ask them to stick it at 4meg, and your router should connect faster.

If you buy a cheapy Dlink Dsl 2500u, I can show you how to hack it to force a connection at any speed you want ( provided telkom set the dslam for 4 or 10 meg)

Firstly check if there is any crackle on the telphone line and if there is then you need to report a voice fault. Telkom wants to deliver a good service in the voice arena and this may improve your attenuation. you can see suggested figures here
Given the values that you have is probably why you are syncing at 3MB. You can use the tool described here to indicate what speed you are likely to sync at.

Nothing physical has changed except your provider i take it from your post .
so it must be your new provider that is only supplying 512 that is my opinion.

My line is now withAH. (it was with TI and i was only getting 3Mbps this them) If you go to the client zone you can click on your Telkom line and then run test.

I'm getting my full 3 Mbps so the 512k confuses me.

I'll try and log a call and see what happens.
