Line unstable after speed upgrade

Not sure if it's coincidence or not, but my line has become extremely unstable. Initially it was 4mb upgraded to 10mb (with no problems). A few days later it was downgraded to 8mb then back up to 10mb, and I now am very laggy in online games and wait anywhere between 5-45 seconds to buffer youtube videos on 360p.

Line Attenuation 13.0 db 3.5 db
Noise Margin 20.10 db 14.0 db
(Area is Lonehill - next to Fourways Crossing)

The noise margin appears to jump between 10-22 while everything else is stable. In the speedtests, one test would get 2mb download and the next 9mb, with many times in which the test would pause (mimics the stuttering problems shown on youtube etc)

Should I consider downgrading my line speed?
 
Doesn't sound like your line cause it is syncing correctly... With your ISP ask them to re auth your account.... Phone telkom and ask to recreate your port... I've seen people 3-4 noise margin with stable Internet for 2 months.... It's not your line :D
 
Wow are you seriously in Lonehill? I'm in the same area as you, by La Gratitude Cr and I struggle to get 4mb? What part of Lonehill are u in?
 
God damn dude, with a 3.5db attenuation you must be living right on top of the exchange?? Are you sure those values is correct?

I think you should drop back to 8Mbps cause of your SNR Margin, its not bad but will give some problems:

SNR:
* 6bB. or below = Bad and will experience no line synchronisation and frequent disconnections
* 7dB-10dB. = Fair but does not leave much room for variances in conditions.
* 11dB-20dB. = Good with little or no disconnection problems
* 20dB-28dB. = Excellent
* 29dB. or above = Outstanding

Or else just ask telkom to reset your port and your ISP to reset your profile.

Regarding the ISP, I have been using multiple different capped accounts (Afrihost, Plugg, Axxess). I have logged a fault with Telkom also. Technically the area is Lonehill but I'm basically directly opposite Fourways Crossing. There were a whole stack of Telkom vans near the box at Fourways Junction (the circle near Leaping Frog) for a week so I assume that's when the upgrades were taking place.

@ Werny: Those are the numbers I get from my router statistics, I can't tell you if they're 100% correct though.

I think its correct since you say that you live near the "box" where the telkom people work. The closer you are the better, some people will kill to get statistics like that.

Your line stats are fine but the fact that your snr margin is fluctuating so much suggests loose wiring which is acting as an antenna and thus causing instability on your line but I could be wrong
At the very least log a fault with Telkom

Wow it's strange cause your quite far frothe exchange itself, maybe the connected you to a fibre cabinet?
