Line up-downgrade fees (New ISP)

Hello,

What is the deal? I hear that if I hand over my line rental to an ISP like Afrihost, I won't have to pay Telkom's ludicrous Downgrade fee once I feel I would like to downgrade my adsl linespeed.

Can anyone confirm this, have you considered doing this as well?

We are actually thinking about downgrading to a 1MB line. How much is this fee? I actually thought it was free.
 
They charged me a downgrade fee as well after the "3 months free internet" when I downgraded from 1mb to 384kb.. and after subsequent follow ups month after month, each time telling me its sorted and yet on next invoice still the same... I eventually gave up...

I've downgraded from 4mb to 1mb on my telkom line at home.Also cancelled my do package.Now only using my 30/100gb redafrica account.

It did cost me a "55 min please hold" call.

Note that i have that line for years,so it was not part of any promotion.
