Linking 2 or more consoled via lan

I am part of ctwug, a wireless group in cape town and me and some other wugger wanna try it over the network. So does the consoles have to be on same subnet or can u have different subnets. And how do u actualy link to each other to play the game.
 
Sorry for posting this here but I am just curious to know is it possible to use a normal USB wifi adapter on the xbox or do you need to buy the official MS wifi adapter ?
 
For local play they need to be in the same subnet AFAIK....

Generally you get a hub, connect them all to the hub and give them all a valid IP, then look for each other under System_link

@Digital_Soldier, no it isn't. However you can buy a normal Wireless access point and create a bridge between that and your router and then wire yourself into the AP...
 
Thanks GavinMannion, have played with my xbox that much so havent seen the system link tab u talking about. Will give it a try.
