Hello there.
I want to have a 14-port network at school.
Is it possible to link two 8-port hubs together?
Will they share the same local connection?

Thanks.

yes. Most modern hubs are switches.

Whats the difference? a hub repeats all network traffic on all ports. The bandwidth available is shared. A switch manages traffic, making maximum bandwidth available between any 2 devices communicating with each other.

In the old days you used to set one port on your hub to uplink. Nowadays we use switches, and they are smart. Plug and play.

If you bought your hub in the last 12 years, its probably a switch. If its older than that, consider replacing it.

A hub is a single collision domain. Eaxh switchport is a collision domain. A switch is a single broadcast domain. That's the main difference ;)

Also, yes you should be able to connect them together. Depending on the hardware you may need a crossover Ethernet cable, but if the devices are reasonably modern you won't.

Would two of these hubs be able to be linked with a simple LAN cable?
Here's the link on bidorbuy.
