I have a WRT54GL v1.1 with serial CL7B1F7xxxxx I can't quite tell if it's safe to flash it... then what firmware to use...
What are the real benefits - what can I do with this jobbie after flashing it...
I have headr MANY nice things about them.

Yeah it's safe to flash the firmware on that model. More features

I've got that model and using DD-WRT. Just remember to flash to the mini release first and then to the full release as per their instructions.

Thanks guys, it's just that on this site, guys have been bricking models with Samsung chips (serial CL7B1F6 and above...

Hi,

I have a European WRT54GL v1.1 (serial nr. CL7B1F715443). I have tried flashing it with Freifunk v1.2.3. And it bricked the router. On the Freifunk mailinglist there are other people with the same experience. Also the latest version of the Freifunk firmware v1.2.5 fails.

It turns out that apparantly somewhere around april 2006 (serialnumbers bigger than CL7B1F715000 ?) Linksys has started using a Samsung Flash ROM chip instead of an Intel one. It seems that this Samsung chip is causing the problem.

I have not tried installing a pure OpenWRT firmware. I will try this later today.

It is however interesting to know if someone has been able to install OpenWRT on a brand new Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 with a Samsung flash ROM chip on board.

We can thus determine if the problem is indeed related to the Samsung chip or if the problem is related to the Freifunk software itself.

Thanks very much in advance.

Linksys WRT54GL v1.1 with s/n: CL7B1F63000 and above will be bricked by Freifunk
because they have a Samsung flash chip instead of Intel. There is another Freifunk
spin-off firmware that has been reported as working; however, it bricked my WRT54GL.
It is available at this download location...

hello everybody !

I have several wrts GLv1.1 working fine with OpenWrt but there are from series CL7BF3... not F6 or more.

If the flash chip is causing trouble then it is not a Freifunk problem because OpenWrt handles the flash memory. mtd would'nt be compatible with this Samsung chip ?

Does someone know a bit more around this topic ?

It would be a good thing to write it down to the table of hardware. The flash memory vendor is not usually specified in it.

Any recommended firmware?
any *linky's* :)

Thanks a ton!
