Hi there,

I have problems getting connected with the linksys WAG54G router.

All the settings seems to be fine, but the ADSL link lights still doesn't come on at all? Telkom said that the line is fine ....

Did anyone had the same problems connecting there WAG54G router to the ADSL
network?

Thanks

lsdigital,

welcome to my ADSL!

My ADSL line was installed yesterday, and although I'm not using the WAG54G, I am using the ADSL2MUE which I believe is very similar.

The DSL light will only flash when the Modem syncs with the exchange, once the sync is completed the light will be stationary lit.

When the technician came to my house yesterday the DSL link light also refused to come on. He had the same situation with his modem and laptop. Did the technician's modem sync with the exchange?

He went back to the exchange to test the port. Telkom support said to him over the phone that the port is fine on their system. After spending some time in the exchange the DSL link light started to flash and went stationary.

He later told me that the port was incorrectly wired even after it was signed off by the guys from Pretoria who apperrently installs the additional DSLAM ports, or something along those lines.

What I'm getting at: If the DSL light does not flash
1) Is the line active, can you make a phone call? The physical copper connection could be down.
2) If you have an instrument attached to the line, make sure it has a POTS filter otherwise the DSL will not work or unplug all phone instruments.
3) The DSLAM port is incorrectly wired or not plugged in, in the exchange

Hope this helps!

it could be your dsl port on the modem that is faulty. had any lightning lately? i replaced mine today

i have had 3 of these modems, and they are very very sensitive to lighting, only the adsl port has gone, so u could still use the unit as an access point.

sorry mate

I have a somewhat similar problem. My WAG354G was set up with PPOA, no bridge mode. Green modem light used to be permanently on when the connection was on. About two weeks ago the connection just went down in the middle of a gaming session. I struggled about two days with no success, before switching to bridged mode.
I am connected once again, although the modem light is still off permanently. I did manage once after that to get the PPOA mode going on the router itself, during which the green modem light worked fine, but after a short period it bombed again.

Any suggestions on what's going on here?

so you say your modem still works, but the light doesnt come on? my 3 modems havent been able to even sync? can yours sync?

What i've noticed abt the WAG354g is that it becomes unstable after prolonged use. So every 2 weeks or so when the line becomes unstable, I reset the modem and it works fine. It's annoying but it's the only solution I can find for it.

Yes,

My modem syncs, but only in bridged mode, even after hard resets. I do have all the right settings to set-up the modem again after a hard reset, but still only bridged mode work, with the green lights off.

I'm having the same problem this week with my modem with no DSL light on the thingy. Couldn't get through to Helkom since everyone is on holiday...

yeah all the lights work 100%, so it seems it might have been a firmware prob and not lightning? or maybe lightning messed up the firmware???? that site is working now, so have a bash. tell me if yours comes right

WAG54GS Wireless Network

Hi,

I got my ADSL line and WAG54GS router about 3 weeks ago. The setup was a breeze and everything worked fine from the start.

The problem is with the wireless connection. I run Win XP on my laptop. When away from home I physically disconnect the router from the phone line and switch it off to make sure lightning does not fry it. Problem is when I switch it back on, I have connection problems.

Windows picks it up and remembers the network key, but while it tries to connect and get a dynamic IP assigned, it just stays on the screen, prompting "waiting for network to become ready" and eventually stops - prompting that the wireless network is not connected, with no specific error message. Even after a few minutes and retries - same result.

Sometimes after the first retry and network refresh, Windows stops detecting the Wireless network and states that no wireless networks are available. I then physically connect to the router with my LAN cable (changing nothing in the setup), after wich the Wireless network is picked up connects just fine.

Anyone know what might be the reason for this ?

Ben.
