Linux 101

On another note though, I think I might have to merge posts 5 and 6, and reclassify 6 as a "Good places to look for more information" type of post. Thoughts?

Up to you, it's your thread, but yeah I think "Good places for support" would be a welcome addition.

CentOS will come in revision 2! I was aiming at Desktop friendly OSes here. CentOS, I'm sure you'll agree is more focused at servers.

Do love me come CentOS though :)

EDIT: Maybe we need a "Linux 201" thread sometime. I'm not experienced enough to write that though, at least not without a little help. Anyone keen to collaborate?

Fedora is Rh, and desktop... =P

Yup, am already working on the Fedora bits ;)

Unfortunately, I haven't played with it much, so I'm having to do some research.

EDIT: Also, just saw your comment about Ubuntu still being based off of Debian. I was so certain that they had shed their roots, but it seems I am wrong again. Fixed and updated ;)

Yea, the Ubuntu guys have three people on the Debian developer panel.

That's awesome :)

Added a bit for Fedora, but I might be a bit hazy on my facts. Could you check for me?

If I win the comp, I'll make a plan to compensate you for helping me set this post up properly :)

Linux Mint is the one that changed roots.

Edit: I see you mentioned that.

Almost. Linux Mint has two flavors. LMDE, which is based on Debian, and normal, which is based on UBUNTU.

Along with that, Cinnamon is now entirely GNOME-free.

Yep. I need to figure a way to keep up to date on this kind of thing. Thanks again!
