The Debian wiki offers some basic cautions for SSD use: Use a Linux kernel 3.2 or newer, use the latest firmware for the SSD, use the EXT4 file system, and "have enough DRAM required to operate without swap space under normal workloads."

Interesting read especially the recommendation to use EXT4, I usually let Fedora go with the default XFS installation on laptops guess I need to rethink this.

Why does fedora still use xfs? I liked xfs when ext3 was around but when ext4 became stable I switched.

Good question, it's not difficult to select ext4 in the install options and I do for servers & desktops.

With laptops I've always left the installer to do it's thing assuming it knew best how to handle SSDs.
