Just when I thought I’ve completely ditched Windows, this annoyance pops up.

“hub 8-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (err -19)

This happens on CachyOS and a couple of other distros. I have googled and found that many other people have this issue but nobody seems to have found a solution yet. There are no actual problems with USB devices (that are present when installing Windows anyway)

Any luck here?

From this thread for Mint, it seems to be a problem with too new HW for the kernel used.
So, what HW (CPU/motherboard) do you have, and what kernel version is CachyOS using?

Here, same issue, but seems to be caused by Nvidia card.

Thank you, it’s a 9800X3D with an X870 motherboard, so it is perhaps a kernel issue. I will read up on this over the weekend.

Are you dual booting? This might be related to UEFI . Eh, I don't have this issue on new hardware (also X870E), but it looks like an assignment issue, possibly related to a virtual USB controller. Do you have anything plugged into your USB ports other than the keyboard and mouse (directly, without a wireless dongle)?

The kernel could also likely be the issue, depending on your motherboard. It might not recognize all ports as having a port. Try disabling additional USB ports in the UEFI and see whether it boots. You could then attempt to upgrade the kernel.

I had a similar issue some time ago, not related, but the kernel not recognizing hardware that it should recognize. Things around me go wrong without reason all the time, so I am used to it.
