Linux chipset issue

Not to sure if I am correct here so I pose the problem to the Linux gurus.

I have an Intel DP965LT mobo with the new 965 chipset. My problem is that when trying to install suse 10.1 or Fedora 5 it does not recognize the DVD-ROM, it keeps asking to load a driver. So my first thoughts are that the kernel on both distros does not support my chipset.

Can you guys confirm this and maybe pose a solution? It would be much appreciated

Inhell chipset...

There is a documented bug (afaik) with SuSE at least with regards to the later 8xx and 9xx chipsets. When you boot the dvd/cd press F2 (or F3, can't remember) and check out the ACPI toggles as well as the IDE and DMA toggles; ie: install noacpi nodma noapm etc. (don't use the switches I've put in as gospel, RTFM).

Another thing to try (sounds stupid, but hey its IT), is make sure your CD/DVD-ROM is not on HDC (secondary master). Heck, move it around all over and see, will be interesting to know. I had a 965 board that wouldn't install until I lobbed a different graphics card in other than the onboard Inhell Extreme or whatever they call it.

And my last 2c: Save yourself a ballache and install SuSE 10.0 instead of 10.1, its a ton less hassle.
