I`ve got a workstation and a laptop at the office, the workstaton is 10 years old and took 30 minutes to boot into windows 10. while operating on the laptop i decided to do the linux thing on the desktop, using llm's as a guide... Installed a few distros in the past and experimented with linux before, but this time i went for an arch hyprland setup, now my workstation boots in 10 seconds and preloads everything i want to use while looking sexy. Operating systems exist to run your programs and speak to your hardware, not to stuff the latest news down your throat while promoting bing.
Makes me feel like i`m in charge of the pc again and i`m thinking of switching to it on my laptop and gaming pc as well.
Friend of mine brought her "slow outdated" laptop to me the other day, installed mint with xfce for her, she uses it for facebook, viewing photos and browsing youtube, occasional word document. now her ancient laptop is perfectly fine for what she wants to do.
