Still enjoying my Fedora 15 install :D

Wow...that looks so pretty! How did you do that? I cant find any theme settings in my Fedora 15 install?

Install gnome-tweak-tool - you will find quite a bit on it if you google it. Also new themes popping up everyday at gnome-look.org.

Okie, if you haven't yet installed the tweak tool, install it first:

Code:
su
yum install gnome-tweak-tool
exit

or you can just use Add/Remove software and install gnome-tweak-tool (I just don't like Fedora's Add/Remove tool very much).

The theme I am using is Zukitwo, you can download it here: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Zukitwo?content=140562

Extract the theme in to ~/.themes/

Open the gnome tweak tool (quick way: Press WindowsKey ==> type tweak ==> hit Enter).

Select Interface from the left menu and change GTK+ theme to Zukitwo.
Select Shell from the left menu and change the shell theme to Zukitwo.
Select Windows from the left menu and change theme to Zukitwo.

Hit F2 and type r and then enter.

And voila!

I am also using Faenza icon theme (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Faenza?content=128143)

Droid Sans 9pt for fonts (http://damieng.com/blog/2007/11/14/droid-font-family-courtesy-of-google-ascender)

Using separate package to improve font smoothing, see my other post: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...el-Hinting-patch-for-TrueType-fonts-in-Fedora

No problem, let me know if you have questions with anything.

bugger bugger bugger. I have downloaded evertything....i unszipped the them and then copied that to my usr/share/theme folder (that is where all the other themes are also. I open tweak and the theme is not there for me to select? What am I doing wrong??? *cries*

Perhaps it will just be easier if we swap laptops. :-)

Oh dear. I am blond. I realized I need to take the folders thats in the Zukitwo folder and put them in the themes folder. Now it shows...but when I want to change the shell theme it sais user theme extension not engaged? Will google it and see if I can fix this.

/wipes sweat from forehead.

working hard ne! :-)

You must install the shell extensions also to be able to change the theme. Open up Add/Remove software and search for: gnome-shell-extensions

Then install all of the packages that are listed (they should all start with "gnome-shell-extensions-". Alt-F2, r, enter. Then start the tweak tool again.

OC, stop sucking up to Tim.

timvdwest always had good taste, but that....sucks.

Hehe, you not a fan - I'll probably be sick of it too within a few weeks :)

Btw, ocleroux - I just re-installed Fedora on a new hard drive and struggled to get the unico engine working that the theme uses (and a few other themes are using this too now). If you are using a 32 bit install should be fine, but if you using 64 bit like I am, the unico engine installation should be like this:

First make sure you have all dependencies installed:

Code:
sudo yum install bzr gcc gnome-common gtk3-devel gtk-murrine-engine

^ Think thats all of them, its off the top of my head so maybe I forgot something.

Code:
bzr co lp:unico -r 69
cd unico
./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --disable-static
make
sudo make install

sudo cp -l /usr/lib/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/theming-engines/libunico.* /usr/lib64/gtk-3.0/3.0.0/theming-engines/

That seemed to do the trick.

Completely basic since its a pretty fresh install but I do like it. Arch with xfce.

I am indeed running 64bit. I have however reverted back to the default theme. I could not get the icons etc to install and it just looked a bit strange. I am happy with the default one also. I have to say...I am rather enjoying Gnome 3....even if it aint that easily customizable :-)

Yes, the default theme is actually pretty nice. Do yourself a favour though, the Faenza icons are really awesome and look so much better than the default gnome ones. Just installed them now, noticed that they had to be installed as root. Just extract the archive to a folder, lets say ~/faenza then run the following

Code:
cd ~/faenza
sudo ./INSTALL

When it asks you if you want to replace the notification icons with custom ones, say no.

Once they are installed, run the tweak tool again and under the Interface option change the icon theme to Faenza. Then you have all the beauty of the greatest icon theme around :)
