Hi,

I'm looking to get into the whole Linux thing now. Windows is slowly pi**ing me off. I'm looking for a distro that i can use for on my business pc. I need to be able to do office documents, print on the network printer, internet and email. I also do freelance web design and graphic design so i need to be able to run those also. I was looking at centos and redhat. Is there something better? Whats your opinions on this topic?

Ubuntu is by far the most popular, most supported (community) and most talked about distro recently. I use it for my work and home PCs and am loving it. There is a bit of tweeking to be done here and there, but mostly if you want to do advanced stuff. For you, I think it whould be perfect. And also seeing that this is a South-African forum and Mark Shuttleworth is a South-African, I would say go for a distro with a South-African soul.
...

Cheers.

I would first do a search to find out if there are linux programs that are good enough to do web design (I assume there are) and graphic design (don't know about this - might The GIMP be a suitable?). I assume these are your business related apps. once you are satisfied that there are programs that meet your needs only then would I recommend you look at switching to linux.

You will also need to accept that Linux is different to Windows. Things are done differently to Windows. And as a result you will need to learn things about how Linux works. Redhat has the advantage of having official support when you buy it.

Something that might also help in determining which distro you eventually choose is to search related forums for hardware that your computer has to see if any users are having problems specific to that hardware. Then whichever distro seems to handle your hardware the best is probably the right choice for you.

I've just set up ubuntu on my second pc, moved my web development stuff over to it. I don't do much design, mainly php/mysql, but it does everything I need. I use GIMP for a small amount of graphic stuff, and Bluefish for coding. Got the apache/mysql/php, set up very easily using apt or synaptic. You can find a lot of useful info on ubuntuguide.org

Alright, I installed another harddrive in my pc that i installed ubuntu on. Looks all good etc. But now i have 2 ip ranges on my network. How do i add another ip to my network card? And is it possible to add linux to my windows domain? If i can do all that i will stick to linux all the way.
