Hi,

I got my brand new iburst modem today. wow. I called the WBS people a couple of times and I went there to pick up the package. Kudos to the people there for being really helpfull and friendly. Thanks alot.

Anyway. I want to get my modem working under linux too. What is the easiest way of doing this? Unfortunately I do not have a router/hub so I (think I) cannot use the ethernet method.

I heard on some of the threads that there are drivers available for linux 2.4 for USB but I couldn't find a proper link to it. Can someone please give this n00b a pointer or 2?

Regards

Hi pwab, welcome to MyADSL

the 2.4 kernel drivers u can get them here ..dont ask me about compiling them.
For that u can ask our resident penguins...mbs,TheRodent, bb_matt....

For simplicity sakes just get a NIC, a cheap one with Realtek8139 chipset u can get for less than 80 bucks.

thanks stepper,

If I got a NIC how would that help me with connecting to using linux? I am thingking of for example how would I specify the username and password etc?

regards
p!

I have a pretty old gentoo system (haven't been online for almost 2 years) and it is running a 2.4.2? kernel. It does not have a lot of extra applications installed since I had to carry all the tarballs accross using my flash drive if I wanted to install anything.

pwab - this has been covered extensively in previous threads
search for ipcop in the forum, I posted a walkthrough a while back. You will need a functioning old computer with 2x ethernet cards, though, if you want to go this route.

alternatively, most modern distros - fedora, SuSe, Debian and others - include really great how-tos in their help files, and also have great GUI configuration apps.

best of luck! Generally, stay away from USB to avoid hassle...
