Linux drivers

There aren't any at the moment, for the USB connector. I'm busy developing one.

If you want to use the device under linux in the meantime, you can get hold of the Ethernet connection cable, which makes the Wireless modem look like any other PPoE device. You can then use it with PPPoE software such as RoaringPenguin (http://www.roaringpenguin.com) The RP PPPoE software comes standard with most modern Linux distributions.

Note though, that to get the modem to work under PPPoE it needs to have been "flashed" with your ISP details using a Windows PC, and the USB cable.

Say what?
I did nothing to it, maybe Sentech flashes it beforehand?

Uhh, thats only for some ISDN TA's afaik - how the heck would you "flash" something over ethernet?

You don't. "Flash" with USB.

Do you loose the settings if the modem battery dies ? Mebe it's like a cellphone where you have to work REAlly hard to kill the bat.

You chaps misunderstood me.

By "flashing with your ISP details" I meant, that the Windows dialler configures the modem with a default ISP, and username and password, which is used to establish the data connection. This typically happens when you do the "Sentech Register" thing.

Thereafter, PPP authentication takes over and re-auths using your username and password.

But in order for the data connection to be established in the first place, the modem needs to have dialled it at least once with the windows dialler.

I'll post the AT command for doing the "flash" here, when I get some time.

What I did not mean with "flash" was the downloading of Microcode to the modem.

It is entirely possible to upgrade the modem's microcode over Ethernet, or USB using the modem dialler software. On USB, a specialized protocol (invented by MCCI) is used, and over ethernet, a series of raw Ethernet frames can upload microcode to the modem.

However, this is not the flashing I intended to discuss. There is a command to set the default ISP, username, and password, which is required to make a UMTS connection. This typically also gets done by the dialler software.

When you originally "registered" with Sentech the modem got updated with a default ISP name, username, and password. True flashing is changing the modem microcode, but my wording was a bit bad. I meant "stored", or "defaulted" rather.

aaaahhhhhhh [:)]

That makes more sense.

TheRodent, do you know how to get the signal info from the modem over the ethernet connection? Not using Windows software...
