Hello all, I am looking at setting up a Gateway server, preferably with bandwidth monitoring tools. I know of some great flavours but none that support dail out with 3G properly...

Are there any versions out there that have good 3G support? I have two modems a E367 and an E1820.

I'm not sure I understand you there, but I currently have a linux machine running as my gateway. It uses an E1820 modem to connect to the internet and my other interface eth0 is connected to a router which is just acting as a wireless access point. It all starts up using the ppp deamon at start up and I use shorewall for my firewall and interface routing. I'd imagine any distro would let you do the same but I'm using arch if that helps, their wiki is extremely useful.

Thanks ktmpixie, I was going for a more dedicated flavour, I really like ClearOS but it seems that they have very little support for 3G - but after most of the morning searching for a ClearOS alternative, I think I will rather give Arch or Mint a try. Thanks again for your input.

I used to do this with a E220 on ubuntu 10 and i shared my 3g connection with my PS3, didnt have to install anything, just used the network utillity on the top right hand corner of the ubuntu menu bar

ClearOS is based on CentOS and I have always had issues with that and 3g devices.
Also if this is only for a home setup its waaaaaaaaaaay overkill. I'm running Fedora 16 on my laptop now and it picks up 5-6 different USB modems with no issues. Just pop a linux distro on it and config basic stuff like proxy and firewall.
If you absolutely have to go dedicated server route try Zentyal which is based on Ubuntu 10.10 / 11.04. Ubuntu 11.10 gave me issues with my 3G devices hence I moved to Fedora even though I'm a Ubuntu fanboy.
