They are successful to make to work huawei e220 with mandriva 2007 (I have at least seems that it is connected), but I have the lowest exchange given, much not to visualize nothing on the broswer. I use Vodafon Italy and this is mine wdial: it would have to be right, but I do not understand perche has this slow operation cosi. Have you one solution?

Excused the banal question, but me rises a doubt. I dress in Italy it tightens goes well also for Italy or I am connecting myself outside of my country, this el mine wvdial:

My only answer I can give is that you are on GPRS and note 3G/HSDPA - is the light green or blue ?

Hi - I am sorry, but I don't understand the question. Do you have a problem with the Init5 line ?

That is the normal for South Africa - it might need to change for Italy ?

I must change init5. lunico .era way in order to make to work it. Excuse for question before, but the domand it meant to ask if with lanit5 = AT+CGDCONT=1, “IP”, “Internet " my modem is connected to an Italian serveur, therefore normal logon, or connects with a foreign serveur and me meeting to spend sums high of logon.

Ok - run this command
Code:
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x0bb4 product=0x00cf

That should bring the device up on /dev/ttyUSB0 :)

I can't believe what an idiot I am ... I tried the before, but I left out the 0x on both ... hence it now working previously.

Works now :D

Thanks

This one has me...I have no idea why it won't detect it...

I have checked the card with a Ubuntu Live-CD (which uses kernel 2.6.17). After running modprobe option the card is correctly detected, and four /dev/ttyUSB* are created. So I suppose I have to update my kernel which is now 2.6.16

We all allowed 5 mistakes per hr :D

OK, I've finally gotten around to actually trying to dial with my JJ on linux ... and it doesn't work

when I try to use wvdial (wvdial jasjar internet) I get the following ...

--> Cannot get information for serial port.
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
--> Sending: ATQ0
--> Re-Sending: ATZ
--> Modem not responding.

Unable to connect Huawei E220 usb modem to my 3G broadband network

I am based in Singapore. I just bought a Huawei E220 HSDPA USB Modem to connect to my 3G broadband network. I am trying to make it work from my Fedora Core 6.

I got useful tips from the earlier posts on how to configure my system for this purpose. I was able to load the usbserial module and the device shows up in /dev/ttyUSB0. When I do wvdial hsdpa , the communication with the modem proceeds to the stage of CHAP authentication but fails in IPCP config request stage.
The device works fine with Windows XP. I have the ethereal capture of PPP negotiations for Windows XP that I can send you if needed.

Following is my wvdial.conf:

Hi willieb,

Two things:

  • Did you run the modprobe command at the start
  • What does your wvdial.conf look like

Laterz !

I am based in Singapore. I just bought a Huawei E220 HSDPA USB Modem to connect to my 3G broadband network. I am trying to make it work from my Fedora Core 6.

Hi pragr,

Are you sure that your init5 is correct? That is the APN we use in South Africa - maybe it's diff. for you ?

Thanks Tazz_Tux. It was indeed incorrect. My service provider is M1, Singapore and the APN is "sunsurf" which I later discovered by googling. I can now connect to the network.

hi,

i`v got a question about the connection speed of the Novatel U740. i`m using HSDPA.
when i`m downloading a file with windows i`ve got an average speed of 160KByte. with linux (Ubuntu 6.10) i`ve got only 60KByte. i set up the connection speed from the pppd, but no response.

the same problem exist with the 3G Easybox and the Novatel UX870.

whats the problem about, and how could i fix this?
