You miss the point. I'm not saying use the term GNU but use the name of the distro, like Debian.

Do you drive a Ford?

I don't see a distro as an OS though, I see it as an efficient configuration of an OS.

Debian on the other hand I could see as more of a flavour of an OS than a distro, its a base to build distro's on.

No one says Linux referring to the kernel either, when they do they always say Linux Kernel or just kernel.... and Linus himself does not care either way. A lot of these things are distinctions without difference. RHEL, Arch and Debian are all the same OS just expressed in different ways.

I use Windows 11 on a Lenovo (not THE Lenovo) and Pi OS Desktop on a pi 400

I'd use a fancy pants mac if I could afford it.
Use OSMC on my one Pi 3B for the sole purpose of sharing my library with Kodi on my Mibox S.

On My Pi 2B I run Pi-Hole

My Pi Zero W runs a print server to a very old HP printer that does not have drivers for any Windows variation since 7.

What is this crying?
Use whatever you want and the right tool for the job.

Linux is a kernel which is then typically packaged as part of a Linux distribution. Linux distributions are normally referred to as Linux for brevity and to avoid sounding pedantic. Both viewpoints are therefore correct.
