Some of the code junkies out there may find it interesting to note that the Linux 2.6 Kernel has been ported for Apple’s iPhone. Both the 1st and 2nd generation iPhones can now use it. It even works on the 1st generation iPod touch. It is a rough first draft but basically plows the way for further and rather quick expansion. Some opinions suggest it will open the way for Google Android to literally infect the iPhone, bringing competition to the heart of Apple by using its own hardware…
Very interesting stuff considering you now have a command prompt on the iPhone and there are some code junkies out there that only need a command prompt to take over the world! Some of the features available in the current port include a framebuffer driver, serial driver, serial over USB driver, Interrupts, MMU, clock and more…
What are not available yet, include the following, write support for the NAND, wireless networking, touchscreen, sound, accelerometer and baseband support.
