Linux laptops

ive been trying to buy one all week but no one has stock available.........most resellers are promising availability mid november.the reviews thusfar have been excellent and i think itll be just fine for my needs.will add a gb of ram and external hard and dvdrw drives.all this for =/- 5k.ill say thats a bargain.

I've spoken to the suppliers, they think because of the huge uptake in the east, we will only be getting towards end of January. If however they can get before, I will let you guys know.

ive tried just about anywhere but the few that were available are all sold out.have2have,e-3.co.za and ngr say they should have stock by the end of the month.i wonder where they get their stock from cause its not from the local distributors....perhaps ebay.anyway im hoping someone gets some soon.

At 900MHz these things will be a bit sluggish though I think.

that was my initial impression as well but all the reviews say its quite quick.
the video demos also seem to be up to speed.think its got alot to with lack of windows and also the fact that you must realise the limitations of the machine...i think it'll be ok for word processing, internet browsing, photo viewing etc....i think it'll have difficulty with the more stressfull applications...

Yeah, check out the videos on YouTube. Dpesn't seem slow at all thanks to the basic Linux OS.

I've played with one ... not sluggish at all ... but then again its a custom version of Linux.

By the way ... the local distributor is Rectron ... maybe Corex.
They were supposed to have them by the end of this month, but
there is now a delay.

It's designed more around mobility and lightweight work than serious stuff.

On another note - the recent hoohaa about the load/unload cycle probably doesn't affect these solid-state hard drives :D

ive had one since late december.ordered online fom the uk +/- R3300.
ive really been enjoying it,only linux hangups thus far.may install xp soon.

I know of a few companies that are seriously considering replacing lots of their laptops with eeePCs for the ppl who have laptops just for things like email and documents.

I'm going to try get my friend to bring me the 8GB (or possible 16GB) EEE when he comes down from England. It must be in black, too. :D
