Well, I am one of those people who love to add more functionality to my OS, or make it look super smexy and so on. So I thought to myself, "why not start a thread where people can post their awesome little tools to add something to the Linux desktop".

It would be awesome to see what's out there, without actually going to search the whole time, or thinking up new ways of making my PC use easier/fun/smexy.

So I'll start, in order for you to see what type of mods I am talking about, though it can really be anything, even little tweaks.

Last night I got the idea of "How awesome would it be to have Coverflow in Linux".

So I Googled for a bit, and found this. I proceeded to download the debs, and configured it as they said. Now they aren't very clear on the config, though it's not that difficult to figure it out.

You will need Compiz, and Natilus Actions to complete the setup.

I must say though, that I installed this on my PC, which has a Radeon GFX card that isn't doing all that well, and the coverflow part isn't working as it should, though the Preview works 100%. And it's all very usefull.

Edit: If you want the Coverflow within Nautilus, then follow these instructions. Though that version is somewhat buggy, but would allow you to test it without committing it to your system.

Over to you guys.

There really are some good things to add. I not so much want visuals, but awesome apps that do something usefull.

I found this list to gave me some good tips on what apps to add to my newly found love: LXDE. http://ubuntulinuxhelp.com/top-100-of-the-best-useful-opensource-applications/

Specifically I like:
- Gimpshop
- Foxitreader (pdf reader, but 1000 times better than kpdf/acrobatreader ect, even on widows!)
- go-oo (A fork of Openoffice - http://go-oo.org/)
- Filezilla (yes even a great ftp client in linux)
- Sakura (xterm but with tabs and also very minimilistic)
