So I've got a copy of my old archive directory full of .deb packages.

Its a mixture of good stuff and rubbish. I don't want to re-download the good stuff so:

I want to copy the Firefox packages and all its dependencies into a different directory...without manually researching the dependencies.

Ideally without the adept GUI. Its been giving me grief.

I'm sure it can be done, I just don't have the slightest idea how.:o

Basically you just have to point APT to the directory where the old packages are and then use apt to install them.

HOWEVER, thats just a very basic explanatation since I think you need to create some index files to index them.

I cant help you further and only suggest using google on how to create your own apt repository.

Also, I think I saw your previous post about Adept and I just want to remind you that adept is just a gui for the package management system 'apt'. 'dpk' from what I know actually does all the dirty work on installing the package.

Hope that helps.

APTonCD looks promising. I'll have a look at it when I get home. Thanks.

I wanted to avoid the GUI because the GUI itself keeps crashing. If I do the same thing with apt via konsole then it works fine. I should have been a bit more specific in my previous post.:o

If you are having problems with apt.. have you thought about using synaptic?

I am using it now.:D Hasn't crashed yet. Unfortunately the interface is not quite as nice as the adept one.

Thanks stepper, APTonCD looks like a winner.

AptOnCD is pretty much a repository backup tool. It gathers your repository downloads from your /var/cache/apt/ folder (you can also specify other files/folders), indexes them and writes them to .iso and then optionally to dvd/cd. Then you also have the restore repository option. But it does not install anything for you...
