Hi

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to buy a Linux pc, by that I mean a pc which has Linux installed as default,
or a new out of the box, no O/S installed pc which one can have a new linux O/S installed on request.
I do not want or trust the rigs which have a Windows operating system on, especially with the hype about
privacy in Windows 10, you never know if removal of W10 the pc can be locked by M/S.

You can install Linux on any PC pretty much, and it is easy enough.

I would not worry about Microsoft locking your PC...Once Linux is installed it has an entirely different OS including boot loader and there would be no trace of Windows- unless you kept a recovery partition. And even them MS has no reason to "lock" your PC and no way to.
 
Yes most pc shops will put together a pc with no os. It won't really be cheaper though because they sell it by component instead of getting a bundle from the supplier. Just follow the prompts when installing Linux to format and repartition the HDD. As said there's really no way yet for MS to lock you into Windows as they have no control over what the hardware does.
 
I know Dell offers it as an option, but as mentioned above, you can always do it yourself.

If everyone had that same attitude no-one would be running linux on their computer.
We all have to start somewhere.

If you have never worked with linux before, the best advice I think I can give you would be to dual boot linux with windows.

First you need to decide which linux os you want.
They all have their own pros & cons.
There is a plethora of free linux documentation out there.
On linux questions there is a nice little introduction guide & most linux os have their own documentation aswell.

My linux experience is limited to Ubuntu, Opensuse & Mint.

He has a fair point. I definitely agree that everyone has to start somewhere, but Linux is just not as mainstream as Windows and some will find it a bit daunting especially if they fear the terminal or rely on MS Office (Libre and the likes are still a bit meh IMO). ;)

Perhaps the OP can enlighten us on what the PC will be used for?
 
Try Matrix, the bigger guys (Incredible Corruption etc) only do Windows OEM, for which you pay...

As long as it's "daunting" it will continue to be Windows' ugly sister.

Linux is only daunting if you are not willing to put in a bit of effort & learn the os you are using.
That ugly sister doesn't need to kiss a frog to turn into a beautiful Princess.:)
If you are prepared to do a bit of work linux definitely makes windows look like the ugly sister.

I see there is a new Linux bible out.
Has anyone had the opportunity to read it yet?

Yes but that effort starts with installing it. If you can't install it yourself you definitely are in the group of users that shouldn't be using it.
