Linux sync with Smartphones - a solution mught be here!

I also use Google sync which works rather well when linked to my Evolution PIM in Ubuntu. However, this works best when you have good mobile reception or broadband. In remote areas, one may be limited to sms only on cellular networks, if any even exists. Many Karoo - Northern Cape farmers, for instance, have little or no telephone service but still want to keep data in sync between devices. Also, folks involved in construction, mining, etc., and working in such areas, sometimes wish to keep data synced and then this is perhaps an option. Some also have security issues and, as we have seen in the past, Apple, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc., have fallen prey to hackers and members' data was compromised.

Same here, Google owns everything atm. :(

What is great about Google, you need one login to do everything, contacts and emails across multiple devices and platforms, but even SMS backup to Gmail and GDrive, Google Docs, probalby a 100 more things that escape my mind since Google is censoring my off-line memory searches...
