The main purpose of the role is to assist the Network Engineers with administering of networking equipment and to maintain Linux server platforms both physical and virtual. This will include the handling of escalations from other departments, as well as to perform incident, problem and capacity management.
Minimum technical requirements:
• Senior Certificate (Matric)
• 5+ year’s proven working experience within Linux server environments
• Solid understanding of DNS / FTP / Mail / Apache, HTTP
• Experience of monitoring systems (e.g.: Observium, PRTG, and Cacti)
• Advanced Scripting Knowledge (e.g. Bash, HTML, CSS, PHP)
• Working experience with Git
• Working knowledge of virtualization
• Good understanding of cPanel and/ or Plesk experience
• Valid driver’s license
Ideal technical requirements:
• Suitable IT qualifications advantageous (e.g. CCNA or similar preferable)
• Exposure to networking advantageous
• Working knowledge of IP and related protocols
• Working knowledge of OSPF, BGP, STP, VLANs
• Basic knowledge of Python is preferable but not essential
• Experience in managing a Spam Firewall
• Past experience within a web hosting environment and possibly an ISP; would be advantageous
• Own Transport would be ideal
Key Performance Areas (KPA’s):
•Adhere to the business and change control processes
•Performing routine audits of systems and software
•Responsibility for documenting the configuration of systems
•Linux and Networking environment:
oDesign, implement, configure and maintain systems; applications and services, both in virtual and physical environments
oMaintain and administer the Spam Mail Firewall Servers
oEnsuring Linux backups are up to date and restorable
oHandling escalations and support from customers and other departments, including NOC and Hosting.
oMonitoring of system uptime and performance
oAnalyze system logs and identifying potential issues with servers
oDocumenting changes to the environment
oSystem optimization and security hardening
oCapacity planning
oConduct trips to the Datacentre in order to perform maintenance and troubleshooting
•Provisioning, installation and troubleshooting of routers, switches and related equipment
