Hi,
Truteq Wireless is looking for Linux support people in Centurion.
You have to know the Linux OS well - having experience with multiple Linux distributions would be a plus. All our systems are SSH-access only. You'll be responsible for supporting a fleet of just under 500 Linux servers across the globe, running a wide variety of custom application software in high-availability production/telco environments.
Just a taste of the things you'll have to know of or figure out:
- how to configure ethernet interfaces, IPs, subnet masks
- configure bonded interfaces (with different traffic modes)
- configure sub-interfaces (VLANs)
- do network tracing/tests using various tools (ping, traceroute, netstat, lsof, etc)
- set up IP routes
- use tcpdump and tshark to test/decode network traffic
- use wireshark to further analyse network traffic
- use standard text parsing tools to analyse log files (think: grep, sort, awk, uniq, wc, etc)
- able to troubleshoot specific application issue from log information
- able to write bash/$scripting_lang scripts to automate tasks
- use of ftp, sftp, scp and rsync for file transfer automation
- do you know what NTP is? ARP?
- crontab config for timed tasks
- monitoring via ICMP, SNMP and tools such as mrtg, smokeping, Check_MK, etc.
- use virtualisation for production and testing (e.g. VMWare and Virtualbox)
- use of wget/curl to test web services and even writing of small test scripts
- setting up a basic web server should come naturally
- security conscious approach (i.e. don't leave ports open, working with iptables, etc).
- all of the above done remotely via SSH and SSH tunnels
Matric is the minimum level of Qualification - if you know the above (and can show your stuff in an informal test while having access to the 'net) you'll be okay. Proven LPI course (or similar) results would be a bonus.
Salary would be between R30k/m and R50k/m (CTC) depending on you level of expertise. Relaxed working environment, laptop, multi-screen setup at the office. Coffee, drinks, etc free. Rotation to onsite customers for a weekly period, then back in the office for two weeks.
PM me for contact info.
