Are there any Linux based software packages that wil allow you to connect a Linux based netbook to a windows based pc via remote control . ie. Hamachi , log-me-in etc.

While at work my laptop is running Pastel , when on the road if I need to look at a customers ledger , stock availability etc. I would like to be able to connect to my work laptop through my Samsung Omnia (as a modem) and see what is going on .

rdesktop or VNC will do the job.

If you are gonna run KDE4 look at krdc, does both RDP & VNC protocols.
If you run Gnome look at the Tsclient frontend for rdesktop.

Look at DynDNS or other similair service to give your office PC a hostname so it can be reached from anywhere without worrying about dynamic IP addresses.

Enjoy!

Even Logmein should work since it is Java and browser based. The target computer has to have windows, but the Driving computer can be linux...

What are the system requirements for LogMeIn?
LogMeIn Free/Pro/IT Reach & Remotely Anywhere

On the target computer, the operating system must be Windows 2000/Server 2000, XP 32 bit or 64 bit or Server 2003 32 bit or 64 bit and Vista 32 bit or 64 bit; Mac OSX 10.4.6 or higher (LogMeIn Free only). Also a web browser that supports frames is necessary, which most browsers do. It is also essential that there be a constant Internet connection (cable, ISDN, DSL or better); otherwise, the user will need to know when the computer is online. Lastly, Windows Installer Runtime is required for installation (this is a free download from Microsoft.com).

On the local computer, a Web browser that supports frames is required. Remote Control requires Internet Explorer 6 or later or Firefox if using ActiveX, or, if not, a Java-enabled browser, and also SSL (secure socket layer) support. An internet connection is necessary. It is also recommended that the browser be up-to-date, with a screen resolution that is the same or higher than the remote computer.

Geez thanks for the input guys , but this is serious greek to me . My office pc (laptop) currently has log-me-in enabled and I currently can connect to it from my wifes laptop at home , so therefore In a nutshell the Linux based system "should" work ?????

If you are using remote desktop from home, then yes it can. You will just need to get an application to run on linux that uses the remote desktop connection protocol. From the posts on this thread, they do exists, so you shouldn't have a problem.

Yes it should. Just make sure you have Java installed on the Linux system and then in Firefox go to the logmein page and install the access add-on. You should be able to log in then.
