Hello hello

I've recently recieved copies of these to flavoures of linux and I was wondering what the differences are between them and which one would you guys suggest I install.

Thanks Alot

Okay I see the one uses KDE and the other Gnome. Which is better?

Install kubuntu. Kubuntu runs KDE as its desktop and comes by default with all the required KDE libraries, and Ubuntu ships default with Gnome desktop and all its libraries. KDE is much sexier than Gnome, but in all honestly, I have kubuntu installed, and you can set it up so you can choose what type of desktop you would like to login to (KDE, Gnome, Fluxbox)

If you're new to linux, go for kubuntu first.

If you're not new to linux, I suggest you go for kubuntu. :)

Ubuntu is by far the better. It is the official release. Kubuntu is a derivitive

There is a reason Ubuntu (And not Kubuntu) became as popular as it did.

As for Gnome vs KDE, all the makor Linux Distrabutions use Gnome (Ubuntu, RedHat and Novell)

For a new user I would suggest Kubuntu.
The only problem about that is that most of the tutorials are for Ubuntu on the net.
But the thing u just have to remember is to run a GUI program in super user mode for Gnome it is gksu and for KDE it is kdesu.
Or just install gksu on Kubuntu.
Ubuntu is more for people that in any case change the desktop manager.

I personally run kubuntu. But if you are new to linux I would run ubuntu only for the reason that 99% of help is directed to Ubuntu . if you are familiar with linux it is quite easy to translate gnome based instructions to kde.

I've installed kubuntu, but can't seem to find my wireless network. It did recognize my usb dongle. Any suggestions?

Wireless networking was quite the chore for me to setup. The best advice is to point you towards you the ubuntu forum. You will need to search for the specific make of your wireless dongle.

I've installed Ubuntu Feisty, and I am quite disappointed. I have a lock-up (total freeze) on wireless connect, and the occasional white screen freeze as well. I suspect the wireless is a kernel/driver issue, but the white screen is a Gnome problem. I prefer the KDE environment - I'd go for Kubuntu, but I think the wireless networking needs a bit of homework....on either K or U.

I'm installing gentoo now, but I must say that Ubuntu is extremely easy to use. The package manager was a real doddle. Makes Windows seem quite amateurish....
