When I first started with linux, wine looked very useful.

But I've found that I use it very infrequently. In fact all I use it for now is for ies4linux - and that only because I need to check sites in ie.

Okay, I do run a windows VM with Photoshop, so maybe having that available reduces my use of wine.

I'm just interested, because in all the Starting with linux type threads, wine comes up. I think it is part of the letting go of the windows teat, but really I have very little need to run windows apps.

I pretty much only use it for WoW. Don't really bother with any other Windows apps, have found an alternative to pretty much everything I used in Windows.

I also never use it - a pain in the *.

Linux has all the tools I need, and then some.

Football Manager 2008

Hm. Good news to know it runs it. So many other games, it doesn't.

A Photoshop CS2 trial does not handle inner windows correctly. But the concept is great.

imo its got too much of a learning curve. Getting simple apps to run is easy but when you start with games then not even a step-by-step guide on what settings to hack help a linux noob like me.

It would be nice if Adobe could be convinced to make a linux version of CS - especially PS and Illustrator (for which I know of no alternative).

It might be only a matter of months from now seeing how popular linux becomes.

Interesting times ahead then. :)

Absolutely agreed.

Legal versions of CrossOver Pro and Cedega.
CrossOver for my lusers cos they like having the Word and Powerpoint icons on their n00b KDE desktops. For some obscure reason people at work think that an email with a Word/Excel attachment that contains the actual info is some kind of standard .
It's good having a choice between OOo and Word for document *sharing* when you don't want to screw the formatting up.
I must also confess I get a kick out of running IExploder to see how it screws up web pages :p.
Cedega for gaming, it is also a useful alternative for apps that don't work in CrossOver, even though there are undocumented ones like SigmaPlot that I've managed to get working in CrossOver.

I currently use it only for alt.binz, tried klibido, and it looked very good, unfortunately it has this annoying bug that corrupts its download queue (think it might have something to do with permissions on the queue file), so I went back to alt.binz, its an amazing little app.

Tried imvu, but that is a bit to much for wine, so I might go the vm route, and install both imvu an alt.binz on the vm and then drop wine completely.

Everything else I need is in linux, well I have only used it seriously now, since Sunday, and reinstalled kubuntu for the last time yesterday hehehehehehe

You made me curious about this app, so I downloaded the sources for uudeview and klibido, and made two changes according to this page to get it compiled on Slamd64:

Seems to work nicely, quite liking it so far :D. Will try some bigger stuff when int. cap kicks in.

I only use Wine occasionally for playing some games..
"Call of Duty" runs beautifully under Wine.. :)

I haven't used it in quite some time though..

I do not use it for any programs* at all .. I have found open source apps for everything I need.. ;)

* By programs meaning non games..
