Hey,

I would like to know if anyone here has ever set up a WoW server within Linux?

I would like to know where to get started, but I need some light in this dark passage.

The purpose is for an old Dedicated server that I have, which is running Ubuntu server, and I would like to have it host a WoW server too.

If there's anyone with a bit of knowledge on where to go from here, please address me. At the moment, I am capped. Yay for local? ... Anyhow, it would be appreciated, if you have any files for me, maybe to upload to a local site or something. Just bare that in mind.

Thanks again. Hope someone out there can assist, I know about Windows, but Linux is a different story. And I am not prepared to use Windows, for the reason I don't use Windows. Linux only, thanks.

I know, I'm using Ubuntu. But I'm talking about the server.
I want the server to host a WoW server, so that I can use it at LAN's.

Sadly, I don't know where you can find emulated WOW servers

You best bet is probably Google

I am capped.

I was just trying my luck, maybe if there was someone with the knowledge or experience of setting one up before, on a Linux box.

The problem is that everyone on MyADSL is legal players so I highly doubt anyone here will even help if they could. But who knows, was worth a try :)

Exactly :) I can't surf Intl. - So I'm just asking, not expecting much. And I am all for legal MMORPG's - it is the way to go if you want 100% of the feel of the game anyways. But I don't want to host it online, I just want to use it offline. So I know it is illegal, but I don't really see it that way, seeing that I am playing the game, and not being any threat or competition for Blizzard what so ever. (not that any emulated server would ever be :P) - But catch my drift... haha XD

Setting up Ascent on Debian for some machinima work was hell, could get it to auth, but the moment you tried to load a toon it broke :/

Eventually we gave up, trying to make it whilst the possibility of getting ganked is high makes it all the more interesting :P

I have in the past used a emulator to mess around offline (great for checking raid layouts etc). Dont know how you battle to set it up its pretty simple. Personally favour mangos. But havnt used one in ages.

@GuDoN
I installed a trinitycore2 and the LC client on ubuntu 9.10.
the server is hosted privately.
you will find very little info on how to set it up on just local bandwidth... mail me if you still need help setting it up.
