Linux

All games from ID Software (Quake 1,2,3 and 4; Doom 1,2 and 3, etc) have run on both Windows and Linux from the start.
Here's a guide on getting Unreal to work on Linux natively.
CoD runs via Wine, but still playable.

So, except for CoD, it is not impossible to get the game engine to support Linux, more a problem that the developers don't want to make an effort.

I wouldnt put all the blame on the developers- The biggest problem is that direct x isn't cross platform- so this is once again a microsoft issue

I heard though that even if you install a malicious .deb file, Ubuntu does not assign the neccesary permissions for this file to run on its own, so still pretty much harmless unless you actively go and run the program. Or is this not true?

it depends- I have set up my machine with 2 accounts, a administrator and a everyday user account with less privileges- I use the second account for my day to day activities, so that some things will not have permission to just take liberties- so even if I run a malicious .deb file by mistake, it has no access rights to my system files (which are on a separate partition, require a password and administrative rights to access)

oh ok. Well, the only .deb files I install are for Skype and those kind of things. I have never seen a .deb file with the name "nakedladiesstriptease" in my email. Thank god most people are still windoze slaves and therefore us linux gods are spared from that privacy infraction hehehe.

Most people wouldn't know what to do if a .deb file arrived in their email. And obviously it wouldn't run on Windows systems, and I think that Linux users tend to be more suspicious of these sort of things, but by no means immune. I have downloaded and installed .deb files outside of the repos, like for Skype and VirtualBox PUEL and so on.

I would be disinclined to run a .deb, or a .exe for that matter, from stripteaseladies.com. As Nod said, it's all about common sense regardless of the OS used.

If you're that worried about viruses, don't install any debs not in the repos.
Anyway, even if you did get a well written virus for Linux, the normal software / OS update would be able to patch and therefore fix it within a day or 2, unlike Windows, which isn't so easy to patch therefore needs an anti-virus scanner.
