Starting a thread here. First tip: Launchpad can be set as a hot corner. Very useful.

Do I have to update to the latest edition of Snow Leopard to be able to update to Lion?

Also, once I have downloaded Lion, can I burn the install onto a disk so as to not lose it?

Yeah if you download Lion you can perform a fresh install from USB or a disk with some tricks, but for an upgrade you have to be on 10.6.8.

Sorry I shouldn't have put this thread in the iPhone section. If a Mod could move it I would appreciate.

If I do a fresh install I will lose all of my data right? Is an upgrade okay or alternatively is there a way to backup stuff so I don't have to reinstall!

I would recommend making a backup and upgrading. Upgrading works really well and reliably in OS X, so there should be no problem, but it's always good to backup first, just in case. You should have a backup anyway. Superduper is awesome for Mac backups.

Thanks!

I quite like on mission control being able to add another desktop.

Really loving the launch pad.

Why? what has Lion got to do with iPhone??

Just remember after you download Lion, Back it up before installing - or else you lose the downloaded installation file.

..and - you will lose access to your bootcamp windows partition - still googling to see how I gan get it back without reinstalling it.

It's going to take me days to organise that into some semblance of order. I'll stick with quicksilver for now.

I just use go to folder.

It was in the iPhone section until I relocated it. :)

Ah!! OK, that makes sense. Any ideas how I can access my bootcamp partition. It is greyed out in disk utility and cannot mount. Using 'option' key on bootup does not show the windows partition - only the recovery HD. Have tried reFIT-OSX. It shows the Windows partition but selecting it to boot with, it responds with 'insert boot disk' or something like that.

You guys must have been starved for features :p
Not really, spaces has been Around for a few generations already. Unfortunately they've now dumbed it down, destroyed it's functionality, and just given it a fancier name. :o

I feel like presenting apple with a gesture of my own....

While migrating, I spent far too much time in the Library folder. I prefer so see my stuff, thank you very much :D
Finder - Go while holding option key. :)

To unhide it, open a terminal and just do:
chflags nohidden Library (or chflags nohidden /User/<your username here>/Library)
If you need permissions just add sudo before chflags.

It should now be visible in the finder like before.

An improvement to spaces - yes, there may actually be one - is the ability to assign different wallpaper to each one.

Now you can also sign pdfs in preview. You just click on the show annotations button, then signatures, and you can then capture your signature using the built in camera.

They've also added quick view to spotlight searches.
