GLRU Website Disrepute
As of Tuesday, 1 September 2009, the Golden Lions Rugby Unions’ website
www.lionsrugby.co.za has been offline, stating “this site has been suspended due to non payment”.
On Monday, 31 August 2009, the GLRU gave their service provider, MacMobile, notice that their services would be terminated, and the manner in which this has been dealt with is unacceptable.
The GLRU have always paid their invoices within seven days from the date the invoice is received, and the latest invoice, in the amount of R21 672.34, which is outstanding, was only received on Tuesday, 25 August 2009, and is for services rendered during August 2009. There are no other outstanding invoices.
The Union is currently working on the situation, and will have the website reinstated as soon as possible.
The GLRU would like to emphasize that this situation does not indicate financial problem in the union, but more a situation of a service provider hijacking the system after their services were terminated.
A very damaging message has been sent out, which will now be addressed in the appropriate forum. We have handed the matter over to our attorneys.
As per our attorney, Johan van Gaalen at Van Gaalen Attorneys, organisations should avoid similar situations by registering all domain names under the name of the organisation and to ensure that up to date copies of all web pages and databases at service providers are retained within the organisation to ensure business continuity.
