This ANC is so divided I'll be surprised if it gets anything done. Will be interesting to see how they fare in the next elections.

I don't think the NEC will recall Zuma. Doesn't sound like they would have enough support to do so. Plus, as per usual, even Ramaphosa's supporters are still ANC members and thus more worried about the party image than the country. More worried about saving their own skins.

...to reclaim the stay at home vote of 2016 - Zuma will have to leave, ....ANC will take the Zim route of cleaning house, no real action on Zuma, till he is truly dead politically....but those around him, interesting months ahead.

Not the NEC's issue.
When Cyril appoints a proper NDPP, Zuma will be prosecuted and at that point they HAVE to remove him.
 
I count 35 on the new NEC that were on the Ramaphosa faction list distributed on social media.
Add Tito Mboweni (not on list) and Zweli Mkhize to those who will likely be Ramaphosa alligned and you get to 37.

I don't agree with you on the status of those names - they one's you have as "not captured" were in the NDZ camp, and the one's you have as "captured" in the CR camp. Mbete has been in the CR camp at least since she allowed the secret ballot, and she openly endorded CR at the conference.

They’re not all 100% but from a quick google of each name + Zuma, you get a quick idea of how defensive of JZ they are/were.

Mbete I know but I wouldn’t trust her.

Buthelezi has been involved in the looting of Prasa and is definitely captured.

The past actions of the minister of defense make that I wouldn’t trust her one second either but maybe. I don’t think she would stand up against JZ though.

As the ANC just experienced an earthquake and allegiances are changing fast, I think we need to drop the captured, not captured label. For now what is important is whether NEC members are for or anti Zuma and even more importantly for or anti CR.

With Mabuza betraying the Zumas he has basically assumed leadership of the Zuma camp, it is now the Mabuza camp. A few will remain Zuma loyalists (especially the KZN crowd). The Mabuza camp is probably divided on Zuma, but it is in their leader’s interest to push him out.

There are 4 groups for now:

A few pro zumas (still in the old zuma camp)
Some pro zuma pro mabuza (mabuza camp)
Some anti zuma pro mabuza (mabuza camp)
And lots of pro CR anti zuma (CR camp)

This is politics, if some of this erstwhile supporters can throw Zuma under the bus and be sure to dodge any blow-back, they'll do it. Of course, in theory Zuma still controls the trough and can give out places there for the next while, but the nuclear deal which most of his supporters were eyeing greedily is now at risk.

Honestly, I think the nuclear deal is off the table.

The timing makes it just impossible to do it before JZ's end of mandate, and the budget does not allow it either and will allow less and less for it.

I would rather watch very carefully the space and see where Russian companies get mines, rights, tenders and any other possible compensation for not getting the nuclear deal.

She was well enough to attend the gathering yet we haven't seen her in parliament for years. If she's sick then resign as a member of parliament.

Faith Muthambi and Tima Joemat Pieterson collectively have the brain cells of a pebble so intellect is hardly a requirement.

I assume "Captured = Zuma faction"? Because the likes of Yengeni are overtly captured, they have nothing to offer. And I'm sure Yengeni will support whomever greases him palms. He can't serve in cabinet due to his criminal conviction, so he lives off patronage and Zuma's is about to run dry. I see him gravitating toward wherever he'll get fed. He's not alone like that. I think it'll be DD vs CR going forward in this NEC. Appointment of a too independent NDPA will threaten the likes of DD in addition to all the Gupta captured.
