I also found this post from MickeyD interesting but, how can you tell from the data if your particular exchange is congested, in my case it's 041-367, the Charlo exchange?

Charlo is most definitely not congested.

Right now Telkom are busy moving ALL services in the entire Charlo area over to ISAMs (VDSL) so the temporary disruptions could be due to this. You will have seen Telkom bakkies and techies all over your suburb in the last few months... my mate says they want to be finished by the end of January 2014.

EDIT: If you said PSH (Parsons Hill) then I would have changed my tune  My exchange is congested AND my DSLAM is full and on an ATM backhaul link

congested

LANGEBAANWEG (WLGN) Exchange is congested to after the telkom line upgrades.

Same here Dersley Park Springs.

Current results. Received escalation number via Hello Peter. No ETA date. I don't think Telkom in their wisdom ever did homework when they upgraded everyone. Impact is big no money to fix this?

Rosettenville RJRV Exchange

I'm considering getting ADSL again...
but before I do, I'm wanting to confirm if Rosettenville (RJRV) is OK.

In 2011, I had a 4Mbps ADSL line.
I gave up on ADSL as the Rosettenville (RJRV) was so congested that I could only get 0.2Mbps during peak.
Off-peak, I would get 3.6Mbps.
I tried 4 different ISPs to ensure it was not an ISP issue.
The ISPs all had the same throughput, fast off-peak, and 0.2Mbps during peak.

According to
http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/exchange/RJRV [broadbandstats]
http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl [telkom checkadsl]
the Rosettenville (RJRV) exchange is still only 4Mbps capable (same as in Jan 2011).
I suspect no upgrades have been done as the exchange does not yet support 10Mbps.

Also
  • Glen Vista (RGNV)
  • Rosettenville(RJRV)
  • Robertsham (RRBH)
  • Turffontein (RTRF)
are all DLU exchanges connect to Turffontein (RTRF), RTRF is directly connected to DPSU.

Previously in 2011, I experienced significant congestion on Rosettenville (RJRV), so much so that I cancelled my ADSL line.

Q. Does anyone know if the congestion in Rosettenville(RJRV) exchange has been resolved?

Some major issues in Witbank/Emahlahleni.

Too much of a pleb to put anything in format, but I can assure you it is most definitely an issue with the exchange.

huge problem with congestion in fairland/berario - exchange is aasvoelkop.

the telkom chap did tests in the morning which showed everything as normal but by early evening it's so slow the ookla speedtest won't even load.

I dread the day this could happen to our exhange again, we had about 4 - 5 months of 500ms+ from 17-18:00 to 0:00 and later.

It could happen at any exchange, you just don't know, and nobody has any shred of confidence left in Telkom.

:(

Well, if there is one thing I have great confidence in it's that I'm going to cancel my line and go back to 3G again if this **** doesn't get rectified ASAP.

Can't go paying R500 a month for something that doesn't work. It's laughable.

Cannot find Goodwood in this thread. Can I assume there is no problem with congestion??

Any one on the following exchange haveing issue's?

SUNNINGHILL PARK (RSNK) Exchange
number 011 234 6xxx

Pierre van Ryneveld Congested Exchange

PIERRE VAN RYNEVELD is congested at high peak times as well for residential, I'm not sure who else is on it in the area but after 18:00 it can get bad.

I also stay in Pierre van Ryneveld.
I currently have 4mbps line with Afrihost.

Every night from about 6 to midnight I have over a 1000 ping when trying to ping telkom.co.za

I've tried using the telkom guest account and also a Mweb Trail Account, they all give me the same results.

Here is my current exchange TRYP
I noticed that this also connects to the Eldoraigne exchange... does anyone have more information regarding this exchange?

Regards
