Tried to connect it up to my MB (gigabyte800m) It blew my 2 Ide DVDs to hell. Had to buy a new LG DVD drive.R400.oo OUCH. Do not ever buy cheap crap.The Liteon dvd went back to HIFI Corp at least they gave me my $ back.

HIFI Corp must have sold you a reject unit . . .

Yeah I also suspect the problem is more HiFI Corp than LiteOn. LiteOn (from what I remember) are the people that make Sony drives (you can even flash them with the same firmware) - I've never really had issues with them - oki except one that stopped reading normal cd's - but that was replaced under warranty :)
 
HiFi Crap is a bad company to buy from. No idea where the products come from. Rather buy our IT stuff from an IT shop in your area - they probably bought it direct from the distribution channels in SA so your product is guaranteed to be part of the 'legitamate' chain of goods coming into the country.

PS: DVD Writers shouldnt be more than R250 :)
