I tried both saix and verizon unshaped.

The normal saix shaped account performs at times better than both these imo.

This is with respect to p2p torrents from overseas.

I've noticed that randomly the shaped accounts are the same as the unshaped. I think the reason is simple - Telkom (or IS) aren't actually shaping at all - they merely prioritise HTTP, FTP, SMTP, etc, and let the rest fight it out for the remainder of the bandwidth. If there is enough bandwidth available, the other protocols will run at full speed too.

On my 384 line Limewire, emule and torrents always max my line speed for the 3 years of my adsl line(with enough sources of course),used saol, axxess and cybersmart, all shaped. The only shaping i ever got was on IS news.

The only noticeable difference I found was in terms of latency, but even that's not by much.

The files probably were not cached.

In that case, every possible data connection is shaped.

Not talking about typical overheads and other factors associated with the connection itself. I'm referring to intentionally decreasing bandwidth on the client side by the provider.

During the day browsing international sites on SAIX shaped is extremely slow for me. When I switch to my unshaped account, everything is fine. This is really frustrating because HTTP is supposed to get priority regardless of whether you're on shaped or unshaped.

I only got the unshaped account because its great for videoconferencing but lately I find myself switching to unshaped just to do some normal browsing! :(

What time of day was it tested at? I think someone should set up a box and test this thouroughly over a week with graphs and all... alas, we can't afford it!

Can't agree with you there. Connecting to a server in Greece, I get a ping of about 250ms on WA (SAIX/Verizon) unshaped, and 400 to 550 on Axxess (SAIX) shaped account. This is always the case, any time of day or night.
